Let’s save the world, Part 2

I like it. What is it?

We spent this week refining our ideas on our sustainability project.

We started by sharing our most striking insights from the research we did:

  • The world already produces enough food for 14bn people
  • 30% of all household food purchases get thrown away (UK)
  • 10kg feed → 1kg beef, i.e. beef is a very inefficient foodstuff
  • Livestock is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than all forms of transport put together
  • Frankfurters are made from the meat that comes from washing down pig carcasses, i.e. the waste is not happening at this stage of the supply chain

These issues all exacerbate the overarching problem that we are having to produce much more food than is good for the planet. We brainstormed different responses to these problems and our responses mainly fell into two categories:

  1. Eat less of the most environmentally damaging foods, and more foods that are kinder to the environment
