Reimagining Urban Living For Space Conscious Times

Simon Woodroffe, formally of Dragon’s Den fame and YO! Sushi, has been busy. After bringing Japanese fast food to the UK, he developed Yotel – a Western take on the East Asian ‘capsule hotel’. Woodroffe, no doubt, had realised that here in Europe a shortage of space in urban sprawls is only going to become more marked.

Continuing this theme is his latest venture, YO! Home. Using scene-shifting technology borrowed from theatrical productions, along with sliding screens, he has been able to give the YO! Home all the functionality of a four room apartment requiring just a quarter of the space.

Trends in urban living in the west point to an ever increasing premiumisation of space. And whilst a trend for single living increases, current housing stock does not reflect this shift. Woodroffe is on to something here. I predict big things from such a concept.
